In the history of navigation, the Strait of Magellan is one example of a passage to the West. Magellan’s Famous expedition is the theme of another painting by the artist (The) Spirit of Magellan. Sir Francis Drake, the famous seafarer-pirate, also passed through this strait half a century after Magellan.
