Pearl Wings
OIL ON CANVAS. ORIGINAL SIZE 6x6 in

  • Raised from the bottom of the ocean, the pearl is a symbol of the moon, as it floats up out of the darkness of non-existence and shines with its matt sheen over the world.
  • The upper half of the shell is associated with Heaven and the lower with earth.

To a certain degree, the shell and the butterfly are contradictory symbols. The former is a symbol of the sea, whereas the latter is that of free flight. Give us wings and we will fly! Such is the age-long dream of going up and above the "ocean of life."
